Wet-type air filters are used (for example) to filter the intake air in stationary engines and compressors installed in enclosed spaces, such as marine engines, etc., which are exposed to only lightly contaminated air.
Wet-type air filters are relatively coarse filters. A steel mesh element, which is wetted with oil, filters the air, trapping particles with a diameter of around 40 µm and larger. These particles stick to the oil-wetted wires or are removed due to the “sieve effect” of the steel mesh element.
Wet-type air filters are highly durable, cleanable filters with no wear parts. They are typically only replaced when the steel parts begin to rust. Depending on the environment, this is usually the case after about 10 years.
Installation of the filter is very simple. It is positioned on the air-intake line and fastened by means of a locking clamp.
