Functional principle of hydraulic pressure line filters
Hydraulic pressure line filters are installed downstream of the system pump to provide direct protection for the system components, such as servo valves and other delicate system parts. In addition, the pressure line filter is also designed to ensure and maintain the required degree of oil purity within the hydraulic system.
Pressure line filters, like all other system components, must be designed for the respective applications and requirements. The critical factors here include the maximum operating pressure, differential pressure loads, flow rate, filter fineness, connection size, temperature range and, of course, the type of hydraulic fluid used.
Structure of hydraulic pressure line filters
In the majority of cases, hydraulic pressure line filters include an integrated bypass valve. In addition, the filters should always be equipped with a contamination indicator (visual or electrical). By displaying a predefined switching pressure, they help to ensure that the filter elements are changed in good time. If the maximum dirt-retention capacity of the filter element inside the pressure line filter is reached, the pressure inside the filter housing will rise. At a pre-defined pressure, the (typically) installed bypass valve will open to maintain the supply of hydraulic oil to the system and thus prevent damage to the pump (for example). It is important to note that, when the bypass valve is open, the fluid does not flow through the filter element and will therefore carry dirt particles into the hydraulic system.
Special features of hydraulic pressure line filters
In hydraulic systems containing highly vulnerable components, pressure line filters without bypass valves should always be used. These filters must be equipped with a filter element that can withstand higher differential pressure loads without becoming damaged. In systems of this kind, the contamination indicator is of particular importance.
Types of hydraulic pressure line filters
In the field of hydraulics, a rough distinction is made between four pressure ranges:
Low-pressure line filters for operating pressures up to approx. 100 bar
Medium-pressure line filters for operating pressures from 100 to 200 bar
High-pressure line filters for operating pressures from 200 to approx. 500 bar
Ultra-high-pressure line filters for operating pressures above 500 bar
Based on the above classifications, we can supply suitable pressure line filters for all applications in a wide variety of designs.
Pressure line filters as part of a modular system from ELSÄSSER Filtertechnik
In addition to our standard pressure line filter series, which we will be happy to configure for you to ensure they are ready for installation on delivery, we also offer a modular filter system.
Advantages of our modular system:
Thanks to our large stocks of carefully selected filter housings, which we can combine with a wide range of requested filter elements and maintenance switches, our modular pressure line filters are usually available with same-day delivery. Our modular system consists of the filter housing, the requested filter element, and an optional maintenance switch. This results in a large number of possible combinations. Most of the pressure line filter housings we keep in stock include a bypass valve. Simply select an appropriate filter housing and filter element and then assemble your pressure line filter after delivery. You can thus put your new pressure line filter into operation in just a few simple steps.
Make the most of this exclusive service – we will be happy to configure your pressure line filter for you based on your specifications!
