SOTRAS – company profile
SOTRAS manufactures a wide range of products, from small oil separators for scroll compressors to a built-in separator for a 350KW speed-controlled oil-flooded screw compressor.
At its production facility in Turin, Italy, the company carries out both automated production of air/oil separator spin-ons and small-batch production of niche products, such as separators for locomotive brake compressors or refrigeration compressors.
SOTRAS locations
In addition to its manufacturing site in Turin, where all its administrative areas are also based (sales, engineering, research and development, and other departments), SOTRAS also has a separate logistics site in Turin and an additional manufacturing site in China. SOTRAS supplies compressor manufacturers worldwide with separators and filters for screw compressors as well as scroll, piston, and rotary compressors, vacuum pumps, and more. SOTRAS has also evolved into a full-range supplier for the aftermarket/service area. SOTRAS can manufacture and supply any type of separator for compressors.
The SOTRAS quality standard
SOTRAS exclusively supplies high-quality products. The company ensures the highest quality standards through constant testing of its filter media and products in its in-house laboratory, as well as inspections during production – including electrical conductivity tests on the metal parts of the separators.
SOTRAS uses its vast experience and well-equipped in-house laboratory to meet the high demands of the OEMs and ensure the continuous improvement and development of its products.

SOTRAS separators
The company’s core product, separators, are mainly used in screw compressors. Their are characterized by their high quality and wide range of functions from very low to high speeds, as well as their ability to withstand high differential pressures and achieve a low residual-oil content, typically <3ppm or even 3mg/m³ (without gas phase).
Their wide range of functions is a key selling point, especially for use in speed-controlled screw compressors, which can produce both very low flow rates at high pressures and high flow rates at low pressures. These systems often require a wide functional bandwidth (> factor 10) to cover all possible operating conditions.
Depending on the application, we use 7-ply, 10 + 5-ply or 3-folded ply glass-fiber packages to cover a wide range of bandwidths, even in small installation spaces or if a long service life is required.
SOTRAS oil filters
SOTRAS also manufactures oil filters in numerous different versions, each adapted to the specific application or the machine manufacturer’s specifications. These oil filters differ in terms of the filter medium, the sealing material and the (differential) pressure resistance. Whether you need high-pressure line filters, long-life versions or filters suitable for oils containing a high proportion of additives – SOTRAS can build oil filters in accordance with your specifications.
SOTRAS air filters
For air filters, we typically use cellulose media with filter fineness <3 µm / separation efficiency to ISO5011 >99.9% SAE coarse. Coarser filter media are often needed for reciprocating compressors and vacuum pumps in order to simultaneously minimize the flow resistance or extend the filter’s service life. SOTRAS can also build air filters based on your specifications.
