Compressed air serves a wide range of functions. In each case, a “fluid energy machine” is required. A fluid energy machine is an apparatus or device in which mechanical work is performed by exchanging energy with the help of a fluid (a gas or liquid). Examples include compressors and pumps, which in turn are subdivided into the fields of compressed-air and vacuum technology.
